(rhymes with blood capsules) Did you know that motorcycle helmets fitted with chin curtains can accummulate CO2 to the level of causing cognitive impairment, particularly while you wait at traffic lights? RyanF9 told me, so it must be true; he has a chalkboard and the manner of a highschool teacher. “Chin Curtain” has always struck me as a gross combination of words, reminiscent of the kind of awful beards that plague cariacatures of BOFH dudes from the 80s and 90s. Three Projects and a Managed Decline

I’ve started to think a little more positively today. I’m marking this possible change of ground state with a post, to highlight the things that might keep me on track for a while. Hacking a Roguelike I am definitely a video game enthusiast. I will never identify as a “Gamer” because that implies a culture I do not like. But I love games, and I love the way, like with electronic music, the classification of games has become a cult all to itself. Read more...

Since I adopted the approach, back in the 90s, I’ve always thought of myself treading fairly lightly and always ready to be picked up by the rising tide and put down someplace else. The notion being, when I get there I’ll know. I think I floated right past the habitable zone.

Fossil Fuel Pipelines - Why No Explosions?

Why is nobody blowing up pipelines? I started reading the Andreas Malm book, mis-titled “How to Blow Up a Pipeline”, and though I got stuck on the simpleton’s definition of “moral pacifism” (clearly a straw man) I agree in principle with the argument that it is time for a new approach. So why is it? There are maps of pipelines on the internet, and there are hundreds of thousands of miles of them; a more gentle form of sabotage should be totally viable. Read more...
